RICE CHIPS/ FRYUMS : TASTY, CRUNCHY bites for LUNCH, DINNER OR SNACKS

RICE CHIPS/ FRYUMS

PAPAD/ FRYUMS/ CHIPS/ VADI/ VADIYALU/ PAPADAM are different names for the  crispy and crunchy delight, without which the INDIAN THALI looks incomplete. It is a good appetizer. It is prepared with rice or different lentils/ dals with the addition of different spices . The best thing about PAPAD/ FRYUMS/ CHIPS/ VADI etc is that it can be stored for more than a year and can be enjoyed any time..

Today, I will be making Rice chips/ Papad from leftover rice. The process of making is easy with very less ingredients. But, it takes 3-5 days for complete drying. It tastes best with Lunch or dinner or along with all special rices or simply have it anytime, if you want to munch something. So, here we go..

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Leftover Rice
  2. Cumin seeds/ Jeera
  3. Chilli flakes
  4. Lemon juice (optional)
  5. Ginger garlic paste (optional)
  6. Salt to taste

PROCESS:

  1. Add enough water to the leftover rice and mix properly to make it lumps free.
  2. Cover it and keep it overnight (don't store in refrigerator)
  3. Next day you will find the rice softer than the previous day.
  4. Stain the rice in a stainer or calendula to remove all the water.
  5. Transfer the rice to a big bowl.
  6. Add cumin seeds/ Jeera, chilli flakes and Salt as per taste. ( adding lemon juice and ginger garlic paste is optional. If you want, you can add at this stage).
  7. Mix it thoroughly till the mixture becomes more soft.
  8. Now, take one polythene sheet and place it on a table or big plate.
  9. Take hand full of rice mixture and put very small balls on the sheet.
  10. Then, keep it outside in the sunlight for  drying.
  11. Let it dry in sunlight for minimum 3 days till it gets dried completely.
  12. Keep the rice chips in a airtight container and enjoy the soft, light and tasty chips as companion for Lunch and dinner or have it as evening snacks.

 NB:

  1. Don't keep the rice in refrigerator, else it will be hard and the rice chips will not be good.
  2. 3 days of drying in sunlight is compulsory, else it will be hard.
  3. Lemon juice is added to make the mixture sour.  If you are  making it in summer season, the rice itself will be sour the next day.
🙂🙂HAPPY COOKING🙂🙂
